Why is green beauty expensive?

Why is green beauty expensive?

Because April is #earthmonth I wanted to answer a few common questions on #greenskincare and if it still holds up as an earth-friendly, safer, and more ethical alternative to conventional beauty care.

Today, I wanted to dive into why more green beauty may seem more expensive than conventional products. Money is a tricky subject because what you may consider expensive someone may view it as affordable. But when you place both a $10 and a $50 cleanser in front of someone, they deserve to know why one is more expensive than the other. I don't have all the details as to why some brands are priced higher than others but here is what I do know:

1st - Manufacturing real ingredients like plants for example is not convenient. The integrity of the ingredients can be so much more fragile as well as the conditions of the manufacturing warehouses. Plus many brands hand-craft and hand-pour their batches so the production line depends on humans and not machines.

2nd - Relying on the harvesting schedule of certain ingredients is also a factor in cost. The earth can only grow so much naturally at a time so the cost of ethically harvesting some goods can be high, but worth it if it's done right.

3rd - Using glass or BPA free packaging to protect the integrity of the product. In my opinion, I'd rather pay for a product that is not going to a landfill after one use which is why there are more options with zero-waste packaging.

4th - Small business owned green beauty brands means less hands on deck and smaller distribution capabilities. If they had the financial backing to manufacture mass quantities of their products, they would most likely have to be bought out by a larger corporation. This isn't always a bad thing but it can mean they lose the integrity of their formulation by downgrading to cheaper ingredients.

Do what you want with this information and there is plenty more to discuss on green beauty pricing. But these are just some insights to help you better understand cost difference when making the choice to buy green! Comment below with your questions as well as share any thoughts. Happy Earth Month!
